The main purpose of the Center for Nonlinear Science (CNS) is to use Physics to contribute to the growth of Inter-disciplinarity. In addition to establishing a bridge between Physics and Biology, and especially Genetics to fight cancer, CNS is using psychological tools to cure mental diseases with non-invasive stimuli, ranging from music to meditation. This involves the use of Physics to contribute to Cognition, Machine Learning and Decision-Making. CNS adopts a Complexity Theory based on the assumption that physiological processes are the result of spontaneous phase transitions, generating criticality and crucial events, and consequently violation of the ergodicity of ordinary statistical mechanics. These processes of self-organization are not limited to the neuron interaction, responsible for cognition, but also used to explain social organization, thereby establishing a bridge between Physics and Sociology.
